Egg albumin is egg white or an egg part that contains lots of protein produced by the reproductive tract (in the magnum). Egg white or albumen/albumin consists of thick albumin and thin albumin.
There are several poultry diseases that have a major impact on albumin quality. Such as Infectious Bronchitis and Newcastle Disease. Eggs only have a little thick albumin, even no thick albumin at all. Egg white is very watery-thin (watery albumin), even containing blood spots.
See picture below, this eggshell is not normal. The shape is not oval like the normal egg shape. In brown layer chicken, this symptom can be used as an indicator of watery albumin.
abnormal egg shell, abnormal shape.
Newcastle Disease and Infectious Bronchitis is a disease that attacks the reproductive tract. Disorders of egg white formation or albumin (watery albumin) to egg shell formation. In the brown chicken layer, eggshell color changes or pigmentation disorders may also occur.
Symptoms of the disease can also be observed from shell formations, fragile, even some diseases can cause a chicken to produce eggs without shell at all. Egg Drop Syndrome is one of the diseases with these symptoms. But the quality of the inside of the egg does not change, there is no significant change in egg albumin.
In this disease (EDS), at the beginning of the case found many eggs without shell or soft shell. The thick egg albumin is still clearly observed. In Newcastle Disease and IB sometimes found eggs without shells, but the quality of albumin in cases of EDS is still much better.
In the healing phase of the EDS case, the chicken begins to produce eggs with thin, faded and rough shells, but the shell shape and albumin quality are still relatively normal. So the disease is only a certain part of the reproductive tract of chicken which was interrupted by a virus. Which part? This can be a classroom discussion topic for veterinary students. Watery albumin is related to the shape of the eggshell.
