Many disease agents cause symptoms of similar pathology lesions in chickens. Such as Infectious Bursal Disease or gumboro lesions, Leucocytozoonosis, IBH, CAV, HPAI on the thigh and pectoral muscles. However, if observed in more detail, leucocytozoonosis has more typical lesions than other diseases such as IBD.

Avian malaria has many lesions in various organs. Lesions on pancreas are very specific. Lesions may also be present in the heart muscle (ventricle), brain, intestine, proventriculus. Lesions in proventriculus are similar to Newcastle disease. Observation of gross pathology lesions is sometimes not sufficient to make a diagnosis, other observational data are still needed in diagnosing.
